Flash Back: Coca Cola's Vancouver Olympic Torch Relay Vehicles

Coca Cola's Lead Vehicle for the Vancouver Olympics Torch Relay

As the Olympic Torch Relay winds its way to Sochi, we thought to revisit the work Great Lakes Scenic Studios did for Coca Cola on the Vancouver Olympic Torch Relay.

Fabrication Highlights:

• Design build • Full custom fabrication from the chassis up
• Integrated cross-vehicle sound system • Temperature controlled product sampling

Having been a presenting sponsor for the Olympic games for decades, Coca Cola was looking for a design-build partner to build their fleet of Olympic Torch Relay vehicles for the longest and perhaps harshest Olympic Torch Relay in History. Great Lakes Scenic Studios made the cut to provide team Coca Cola with a caravan of vehicles including the lead trucks, product sampling customized Olympia Ice Machines and accompanying support vehicles.

Breyers Ice Cream Trucks

Breyers Ice Cream Truck

 Fabrication Highlights:

• Custom refrigeration unit • Full vehicle graphics wrap
• Product storage units • Licensed custom vehicle

The old familiar summer chant of "Who wants ice cream" rang out in chorus as Bryers Ice Cream customized trucks and bikes made their way across the country, giving out free samples to happy crowds. Great Lakes Scenic Studios started off with standard delivery-type trucks and then added a full vehicle wrap to dress up the outside and to signal to people that Breyers had arrived in their community. The inside of the trucks needed to be modified to accommodate a refrigeration unit to keep the tasty treats frozen. The interior prep-area was all built to food-grade specifications, complete with hot and cold running water for the sink. As part of the project, Great Lakes also outfitted three-wheel bikes for ice cream sampling.

Food Network Ice Cold Cash Bike

Food Network Ice Cold Cash Bike

Fabrication Highlights:

• Automated mechanical Winner's celebration • Multimedia integration
• Custom fiberglass ice cream cone props • Functional bike

I just love the Food Network, so when I found out that we were going to be fabricating a custom bike for their new hit show "Ice Cold Cash" I was stoked. The concept for the show is to answer food-related questions for cash. The host would drive the ice cream cart through a park-like setting, waiting for someone looking for ice cream.  Once the unsuspecting would-be-contestant asks for an ice cream, the host would remove the lid to the ice cream freezer and a prop would automatically rise from the depths of the faux freezer to eye level with a flourish of light and sound signalling the start of the game.

Working together, Jacques our Head Welder and Dan, our Head Electrician were able to come up with an ingenious automation mechanism for the bike that ultimately helped add to the show's success.

Holt Renfrew Square One Nail Bar

HR Nail Polish Bottle

We had the pleasure of parterning again with our long time client Holt Renfrew to produce massive oversized nail polish bottles for the grand opening of their newest store in Square One. Each piece was hand carved from styrofoam and finished in Holt Renfrew's glossy trademark magenta. Thia unit was over 7' tall by 4' wide and was showcased in their main atrium. When a client calls with a seemingly impossible request, we find a way to make it happen!
